*as read from here
Vans: I'm basically just throwing this idea out there because it would give me a major boner. But there is some actual possibility of this happening here. Koston rode for Vans back in the Goldfish era, and I really can't imagine anyone who has skated Vans a lot not knowing that Vans shoes are the best. I mean I love the Manchester Select, but Vans shoes are the best. Truth. Plus Vans has deep pockets and if Koston is leaving his best friends at Lakai, I can only imagine that he is getting paid for it. Also wouldn't be the first time Vans stole a rider from Lakai.
Etnies: Koston has a long history with Sole Tech, riding for Etnies for years before Es came about, which we all know he was the driving force of. Etnies has been making big moves lately, and I think they have a lot of money to make some more big moves. I could see this happening as a sort of bringing the Cock back to the roost sort of thing. My god that was a brilliant play on words.
Converse: Of course people are assuming that Koston leaving Lakai is mostly due to the possibility of a big corporate paycheque, and seeing as how Converse is the newest player in the game, people obviously are making predictions about the possibility of Koston lacing up some classic Chucks or Dr. Js. After all in a question that I sent to Crailtap before, Koston did admit that he liked the free Converse that all the Girl guys used to get. But I think that the Converse thing may be a little too new and not a sure bet for Koston to make such a huge move for.
Adidas: Still in the realm of the corporate shoe sponsor, but definitely a little more established and solid than Converse, lots of people could see Koston getting on the three stripes. Sure Adidas has a huge flow team, but their actual pro team is very small and elite, possibly there is room for the most elite rider in the game?
Nike: This to me seems like the most likely thing that's going to happen here. I mean let's face it. Koston is a sneakerhead. Lots of his pro shoes were directly designed from or inspired by Jordan models. He's obviously stoked on Nike's shoes, and by signing with Nike, not only could he make a shitload of money, but I'm sure they would give him his own model. And you can't deny that for someone who has been a long fan of Nike shoes, and is a huge basketball fan, having your name on a pro shoe for the biggest shoe company in the world would have to be a major draw. Seriously how sick would an Air Koston be? It just sounds right. Besides, getting on Nike I know for a fact that you get allotted a certain amount of Nike dollars a year you can spend on whatever you want. For someone as into golf and basketball as Koston is, this could be a very attractive offer.
His own shoe company: This is one that a lot of people have been throwing around, and with good reason. Koston has been quoted many times in the past talking about the importance of owning a piece of the companies that you are riding for. On top of that many people are seeing the fact that Lakai posted a farewell video on their website as a sign that he will stay within the Podium Distribution camp. (Pretty ironic that the link to Lakai on that Podium site is a picture of Koston, innit?) Some people are even going so far as to claim a Berrics shoe company. I mean look at the amount of exposure that The Berrics gets. It's the most popular and visited skateboarding site ever. Plus the fact that his partner in avoiding street-skating crime, Steve Berra is within the Podium camp definitely helps lend a hand to the possibility of this rumour. Now I'm not going to say that the possibility of Koston starting his own company is a ridiculous notion, but if it happens, one thing I know it will not be is "The Berrics Shoes". Seriously, Koston's not a fucking idiot. That would be the worst move ever. Besides, according to this post on ESPN, "I followed up by e-mailing Kelly Bird and he wrote me, "It's true. Not sure what he's doing, but it's definitely not another company under Podium. It should all air itself out over the next couple days."
So what are we to think here? What are we to believe? All I know is that whatever happens it's probably going to be one of the most talked about sponsor changes in skateboarding's history. I mean when Koston left Es, everyone sort of new he was going to Lakai, but everyone also assumed that he would be staying there for the rest of his career. So what do we think now? Go to the new poll and let us know!
